Some of you may not know this classic game series. I would not be surprised but saddened as you have lost out on great experiences. Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic's (KOTOR) first release was in 2003 and the second one in 2004. What made me, and other people, hold these games in high regards was definitely the story. Whilst you were forced into certain choices, most of what happened in the playthrough was your decision. You wanted to be the (almost) comically evil person destroying everything he touches? No problem. You wanted to be ho holier than thou, (arguably) sci-fi universe's equivalent of a nun? You do you. All of that with sort of a turn based combat system with some DnDish (Dungeon and Dragons) dice element to decide all the calculations. But since we focus on the future, let's talk about KOTOR 3. We know that LucasArts in 2004 has made cuts to the budget, which also, unfortunately for many fans, included putting the KOTOR 3, which was in the design ph
Grand theft Auto games series has been an evolutionary one. Upon most of its individual releases these games have surpassed standards of the time by a mile, relevant examples would include GTA 3, the first 3D GTA game which was released in 2001.
PS: I am sorry for the delays, but personal circumstances make my schedule quite wobbly. Next post will be up on Sunday.
But since this blog focuses on the future, let's talk about GTA 6. It's been almost 9 years since release of the GTA 5 and the rumours about the anticipated next entry have been steadily flowing in, even more so now since Rockstar recently confirmed they are indeed, working on GTA 6.
What changes could we expect? The answer is that pretty much everything technologically is subject to change. Graphics, is an obvious one, and for an example of graphical changes I'd encourage you to look at Rockstar's most recent game built on the same game engine, Red Dead Redemption 2.
But since we talk about chanes we are likely to see in GTA 6 I'd like to bring up certain thoughts brought forward by certain industry "leakers". One of those leakers, Tom Henderson claims that the map will gradually increase in size (ie new locations being added) as downloadable content (DLC) which would be a considerable improvement from GTA 5's occassional addition of, for example, new properties you could enter.
Then there's also the recent 24 page long patent by Take-Two Interaqctive, which is the parent company of rockstar games. Said patent's name is "system and method for session management in a multiplayer network gaming environment". In a non-technical language it would permit you, among other possible things, to seamlessly switch to another session. Say, you were in area A of the map and crossed into area B of the map, these will be in practice separate even though these might appear as the same entity, meaning, upon crossing you will join a new session without loading. This would be a huge step to make compared to GTA 5's rather mindnumbing loadings for an entire map with a limited players' count.
What do you think will change in GTA 6? What would you like to see in GTA 6?
Cool stuff! I can't wait until they finally release it
ReplyDeleteI don't think they will release it any time soon, there's just too much money in microtransactions for them to stop.
DeleteI don't think they can keep on making money off this game forever. My hope is based around the assumption of diminishing returns, ie, hoping that their predictions regarding money from GTA 6 would substantially outpace just sticking to GTA 5 forever.
DeleteSomeone sent me a link to a reddit post with this blog in it, cool stuff . When will you post again?
ReplyDeleteIn 6-7 hours.
DeleteHave u thought about talking about stalker series? I heard about a new game in development
ReplyDelete//P
As far as I am aware any work on the new stalker game has been postponed due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the company that develops it is based in Ukraine.
DeleteI understand the appeal of this game and I'd love to look into it at some point, but I just don't feel comfortable discussing it with so much uncertainty about future of the game and the livelihoods of people in question.
