Knights of the Old Republic

Some of you may not know this classic game series. I would not be surprised but saddened as you have lost out on great experiences.  Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic's (KOTOR) first release was in 2003 and the second one in 2004. What made me, and other people, hold these games in high regards was definitely the story. Whilst you were forced into certain choices, most of what happened in the playthrough was your decision.  You wanted to be the (almost) comically evil person destroying everything he touches? No problem. You wanted to be ho holier than thou, (arguably) sci-fi universe's equivalent of a nun? You do you. All of that with sort of a turn based combat system with some DnDish (Dungeon and Dragons) dice element to decide all the calculations. But since we focus on the future, let's talk about KOTOR 3. But since we focus on the future, let's talk about KOTOR 3. We know that LucasArts in 2004 has made cuts to the budget, which also, unfortunately for many fans, included putting the KOTOR 3, which was in the design phase, onto the chopping block.

Between then and now Bioware has worked on Star Wars: The old Republic (SWTOR). Some perceived it to be the spiritual successor of the KOTOR games series but to me personally, this was more of a different beast. SWTOR is an online role playing game (RPG) which was more fluid, more microtransactions oriented and it really didn't fill the spot. Until..

KOTOR 3 has been announced. After 17 years. Granted, it is being developed by other developers but they seem ambitious.

Unlike a remaster, which would suggest only a graphic overhaul etc to make the game the same in terms of content but more compatible with modern hardware and standards, remake suggets ANYTHING can change.

Personally I assume the new developers, Aspyr Media, will remove the DnD dice element from the game and perhaps borrow from fighting system more dynamic, perhaps Mass Effect.

What are your guesses?

    1. I haven't got the foggiest idea.

As far as I am aware they haven't said anything that would indicate kotor 2 is in the works but I assume that's because of the sheer size of the project that kotor 1 is as a remake.

I'd also assume that if they manage to pull kotor 1 off successfully, they won't let go off a money printer.
